To celebrate Fat Bear Week 2026, Peninsula Flock Knits is giving away Comfort and Joy Yarns' Katmai National Park Beanie Kits which contains the yarns you need to make Nancy Bate's wonderful beanie design and a copy of Nancy Bates' pattern. Winner of the kit can either pick it up in the store or have it shipped to them in the United States free of charge (sorry, we do not ship internationally).

If you are not familiar with Fat Bear Week, some of the largest brown bears on Earth make their home at Brooks River in Katmai National Park, Alaska. Brown bears get fat to survive. Fat Bear Week, which started in 2014, is an annual competition that celebrates the remarkable transformation of Katmai’s brown bears as they feast on salmon and build the fat reserves they need to survive the winter.  

The official Fat Bear Week tournament and voting will take place Sept. 22-29 their site. Only one bear will be crowned Fat Bear Week champion.  Last year over 1,700,000 votes were cast from more than 100 countries before Bear 32 nicknamed “Chunk” was crowned champion.  

Correctly guess which bear will be crowned the chunkiest bear, and you could win this wonderful hat kit. Only one kit will be given away. In the event multiple people correctly guess the champion bear, we will randomly choose the winner of the hat kit from among those correct guessers. You must submit your guess by 6:00 pm Pacific on September 29, 2026 to be eligible.
