Ready to knit your first garment?

The SABAI top is a light and airy summer top with a boat neckline. It is super easy to knit, requires only a few techniques and is therefore ideal for beginners. The Sabai Top project class includes detailed instructions for those who have finished the Intro to Knitting class and are eager to knit their first garment.

Starting at the neckline, this simple yet elegant garment is knit top-down on circular needles. You will learn to work the front and back, shape the armholes, and knit in the round – useful skills for future garments.

Skills Taught: joining in the round, M1L, M1R, kfb, slip stitches 

Class Times:  2:00 to 3:30 pm, Saturdays

Dates: 6/6, 6/13, 6/20 and 6/27

Class Size: 5 students (age 16+) maximum.  A minimum of 3 students must register and pay for the class in order for the class to be held.   

Fee: $150 for four 90-minutes classes. 

Skill Level:   Cast on, knit, purl and bind off

Materials: US 6 (4 mm) circular needles, 22” (or 14”) and 30” cord stitch markers, tapestry needle.  Students can purchase steel or bamboo interchangeable needles with cables from Peninsula Flock Kits.

The top can be worn snug with approx. 0 - 2 cm / 0 – 0.8” positive ease, but also works well with a little more room to move (5 - 8 cm / 2 – 3.2” positive ease). For example, if you have a chest circumference of 90 cm / 35.4”, you should choose between size S and M.

Yarn:  Knitting for Olive Pure Silk or Fonty Polaire.
Students should plan to purchase their yarn before the first class (yarn is available for purchase at Peninsula Flock Knits).

Students should purchase yarn based upon the above measurements as follows:
4 (5) 5 (6) 7 (8) Balls of Knitting for Olive Pure Silk (held double to achieve gauge) or 5 (6) 6 (7) 8 (9) Balls of Fonty Polaire.  For example, if you are knitting a size S, you should purchase either 5 balls of Knitting for Olive Pure Silk or 6 balls of Fonty Polaire
