Learn to Knit Entrelac!

Have you admired a garment that looked like woven squares and wondered how you could knit something like that?  You were probably looking at an entrelac garment and this class will teach you the techniques you need to know in order to make your own stunning entrelac projects. 

Entrelac, which comes from the French term "entrelacer" meaning “to interlock, to interweave”, is a knitting technique that creates knitting that looks like interwoven strips. Each little square is knit back and forth, one section at a time, using increases, decrease and picked up stitches to join squares together as you work. Entrelac can be made with a single, basic color, or worked in multiple colors to look like a harlequin print. This technique can be used in just about anything: blankets, scarves, hats, sweaters, shawls.

By the end of this class you will have knitted an entrelac square that you can continue to work on to make a beautiful scarf.  Once you get used to learning and working this special technique, you will open yourself t a whole world of knitting possibilities!

Skills Taught:   Picking up and knitting and purling along the knitted edge, keeping track of each square, optional: learning how to knit backwards

Skills Required:   Basic knitting skills, knitting and purling interchangeably, be familiar with basic decreases and increases (k2tog, ssk, kf&b, m1)

Class Times: Saturdays, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Dates: September 19 and 26

Class Size: 5students (age 16+) maximum.  A minimum of 3 students must register and pay for the session in order for the session to be held.   

Fee: $100 for 2 two-hour classes 

Yarn:  50g of worsted weight yarn.  Peninsula Flock Knits carries a wide selection of worsted weight yarns that will work well for this class.  You can find our selection HERE.  Students will need to purchase the yarn for this class before the first class. . 

Other Materials:  Students will need size US 7 (4.5 mm) or size US 8 (5 mm), 24" or 32"  circular knitting needles, removable stitch markers, a tapestry needle for weaving in ends, and scissors. Students can purchase these items from Peninsula Flock Knits.
