Make the Daruma Motif Crochet Cardigan - Saturdays 11:30 am - 1:00 pm 9/12, 9/26 and 10/3

Daruma Motif Crochet and Knit Cardigan Class

This unique cardigan incorporates both crochet and knitting to create a stunning garment that you will love wearing for years to come.  The PFK teachers have developed an English translated version of the Daruma Motif Crochet Cardigan in order to bring this wonderful project to you.  Students in the class will build upon their knowledge of crochet and knitting to create a sweater with a beautiful design and unique textures.

This cardigan will be taught in 3 classes starting September 12 (September 12 and 26 and October 3).  Because the project entails crocheting a large number of granny squares (at least 70), there will be a two week gap between the first and second class in order to give students the opportunity to complete their square before the second class.

Skill Level:  Students should be comfortable with the following:

• Crochet skills: Basic crochet techniques (slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet), working in round or basic granny square
• Knitting skills:  Knitting and purling interchangeably

Skills Taught:

• Crocheting the granny square pattern in two more colors
• Carrying yarn behind
• Understanding gauge
• Blocking squares
• Seaming squares together
• Picking up stitches for knitting
• Finishing techniques

Yarn Requirements:

Peninsula Flock Knits will be offering yarn kits for the cardigan in Pascuali Sayama yarn and Comfort and Joy Snug yarn.   The yarn for these kits will be special ordered and orders must be received by Peninsula Flock Knits by August 8, 2026.  The base kit price will contain enough yarn to knit the original size cardigan that is shown in the attached photos.   The yarn kits will start at $225 for Pascuali Sayama yarn kit and at $182 for the Comfort and Joy Snug yarn kit.  You can choose to make the sweater longer and/or wider to better fit you by ordering additional yarn for your kit.  Students who sign up for the class will need to come into our store to try on the cardigan before they order their yarn to determine whether their kit they order will need to include additional skeins of yarn to make it longer or wider.    Note that once we place the order for the yarn, we will not be able to offer any refunds or returns of the yarn for this project.

Tools:

• Crochet Hook size G/4mm
• Knitting Needles: 
  • 32” (or longer) circular knitting needle US size 6/ 4 mm for front and collar 
  • DPNs US size 6/ 4 mm (or use magic loop with circular needle)

Please use recommended sizes or size to obtain gauge

• Additional tools:  tapestry needle for seaming and weaving in ends, scissors, tape measure

Pattern:

The Motif Cardigan pattern is part of the “Daruma Pattern Archive 1” book which is included in the cost of the class (the book contains 9 other wonderful patterns).  Students will receive a digital copy of the book together with an English translation of the Motif Cardigan pattern prepared by the Peninsula Flock EweNiversity teachers.
